With all the negative publicity Mexico has received from the media recently, I was fortunate enough to attend a FAM trip for travel agents to Cancun, Mexico.  This was the perfect opportunity to partipate in a hands-on experience of several all-inclusive resorts, visit one of the public schools, and enjoy the beautiful weather this city has to offer year-round.

During this trip, we were able to visit 8 all-inclusive resorts owned by Iberostar Resorts, El Dorado Resorts, and Azul Hotels.  All of the resorts were beautiful beachfronts located in the Riviera Maya and Cancun areas.  Some were adults/couples only and many were family oriented.  The room types ranged from standard size rooms to suites and villas.  Each resort offered a wide range of restaurants with fast food, buffets, and gourmet meals which are included in your package unless you visit one of their "exclusive" restaurants for a small fee.

We were the first travel agents to stay at the Iberostar Cancun Resort during their "grand opening".  My roommate and I stayed in one of the Beachfront Villas.  It was a spacious room with an extended balcony, an oversized bathroom with a tub and shower.  The Iberostar Cancun Resort offered poolside activities and live entertainment nightly.  The pool and white sand beach were very relaxing with the beach cabanas, chairs, and infinity pool.

My favorite part of the trip was our visit to one of the public schools of Cancun.  We delivered the donated items from KHM Travel Group.  The donated items ranged from money to school supplies and clothes.   The students and staff were so appreciative and surprised to see all the items.  Many of the students were so excited and wanted to show us how they were able to speak English.  We learned so much about the school from one of the students. She didn't want us to leave until we knew EVERYTHING there was to know about "her" school!!!

Although there is violence going on in Mexico, I can honestly say it is not in the Cancun/Riviera Maya/Cozumel area.  Mexico is a large country, just like the United States.  The tourist areas are still safe and away from the violence.  There are plenty of resorts available in Cancun that will enable you to relax and enjoy the beauty it has to offer.
